Nancy Buttinger, M.C., Registered Psychologist (Provisional) #1167

“When we are no longer able to change a situation,

we are challenged to change ourselves.

– Viktor Frankl

Change can be difficult. I’m here to be attentive to your journey.

The change that is needed might be in your environment – to find and build a community of support. It may also mean a renewed perspective to view the challenge in another way, or perhaps and opportunity to learn from others and yourself.

Varied life experiences shape each of us and provide perspective on our understanding of the world and the web of relationship we develop. I think the search for meaning and purpose is a continuous journey.

I will work alongside you. Together we can create a space of safety where you can ask questions and explore your world.

My Approach

Existential-humanistic therapy is my theoretical home in which I draw support from Narrative, Solution-Focused, Family Systems and Cognitive-Behavioural (CBT) therapies. My approach is person-centred and trauma-informed. I am interested in hearing the cultural shaping of one’s story and how these developed constructs can play a role in a person’s experience of feeling stuck.

Professional Background

I am a Registered Psychologist (Provisional) practicing under supervision in the area of counselling psychology with children, adolescents, adults and couples. I also hold the Canadian Certified Counsellor certification with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association, as well as the Certified Spiritual Care Practitioner certification with the Canadian Association of Spiritual Care.

I have been a member of the Canadian Armed Forces for over two decades. I was providing mental health support for the members over the last 13 years, before joining the Horizon team.
